Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to dismiss the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) plea seeking a probe against his wife, B.M. Parvathi, in connection with the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land allotment case. He hailed the verdict as a “resounding slap of justice” against the Central Government’s alleged misuse of investigative agencies.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Siddaramaiah said, “The Supreme Court’s historic order dismissing the ED’s appeal to investigate my wife… is a resounding slap of justice on the face of the Central Government.”

He extended gratitude to Chief Justice B.R. Gavai and Justice K. Vinod Chandran, stating that the verdict reinforced his long-standing belief in the Constitution and rule of law.

The Chief Minister accused the BJP and its allies of weaponising central agencies like the ED and CBI to harass his family for political gain. “Unable to defeat me politically, they fabricated false cases through these agencies, causing immense harassment and mental distress,” he wrote.

Siddaramaiah also quoted the Supreme Court’s oral observation in the case, “Political battles should be fought with voters, not by misusing constitutional institutions like the Enforcement Directorate,” saying these words reflected the sentiments of every citizen who believes in democracy.

The Chief Minister further demanded a public apology from BJP and JD(S) leaders in Karnataka who, he said, had made baseless allegations against him and his family. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to take the court’s remarks seriously and end what he called the “systemic misuse” of investigative agencies.

The Supreme Court bench, comprising CJI B.R. Gavai and Justice K. Vinod Chandran, dismissed the ED’s plea challenging the Karnataka High Court’s earlier decision to quash the probe against Parvathi, remarking, “Let political battles be fought amongst the electorate. Why are you (ED) being used for it?”

The ruling marks a significant development in the ongoing controversy around alleged irregularities in land allotments by MUDA and adds weight to the Opposition’s broader accusations of institutional misuse for political vendetta.
